ما هي بعض الأماكن المهمة في المدرسة؟

< < < للمدرس > > >

Prep:

  • Download and print 1 “School Race” answer sheet per teams (5 or 6 students)
  • Dice – 3 per group of 5 or 6 students
  • 3 “game chips” per student
  • Make School Race clues and hang them up.

Step 1: Daily Objective

Introduce the daily objective.

Step 2: Question

What are some important places in the school? – See what they already know. Use the pictures to go through Example: “Do we have a… cafeteria?” Later you can use these pictures again to ask – tell me how to get to the…

Step 3: Virtual Tours and Photos

Find photos or a video tour of schools in the target cultures (Private schools usually have these on their websites to recruit) OR use the generic photos in the slideshow above (click the button on the right to advance the show). Show them and ask lots of questions similar to the previous lesson plus start adding ones about specific places in the building and connect back to your own school. (Do we have a gym?)

Make a list of the places in the school as you go. Put a symbol next to the ones that your school also has.

School Maps

Show some maps of schools (and maybe universities) from the target culture. Start by asking where a place is and giving them a few options like (here, there, on the left, on the right, top, bottom) to answer.

Step 4: Practice with Left, Right, Center Game

http://www.creativelanguageclass.com/shootin-dice-to-learn-location/ – Read to know how to play.

Show the image on the board and let them play.

Step 4: School Race

  • Prep: Pick around 8 places for them to go. Write the direction from your classroom to the first “stop.” Then write directions for that stop to the next one. Repeat until all stops are done.
    • Example: Turn right, pass the water fountain, pass the bathrooms, turn right, go to the third door on the left.
  • Then hang the next set of directions at that stop. Option 1: Put a clue card for each group to take. Option 2: Only put one sign at each stop, so they will have to memorize it before they leave. (See pic below) Have them write down each stop in order so you know they actually went to it (in download).
  • Group up the students (Example uses A, B, C…). Let one group go at a time. Have them time themselves. The group that gets through all of them correctly in the least amount of time, wins.
  • There’s a sample in the top part to show an example of what they will do.
  • Let the other groups play LRC dice game and this would be a perfect time to “chat” with small groups for a quick interpersonal check.

Check for Learning

Have them summarize what they learned today about the classes.

Option: Give a senario like – Your school is hosting a group of teachers/students from (country). You get to stay at the office for a class period to give directions to them as needed. One student comes up and asks you how to get to the… (put a place).

Is that on the sheet with the arrows? When I replace it, it says it’s the same. Maybe it’s the font, so I’ll change that.
