Each student will need one of these blank lists templates.

There are two versions for them to pick from, or they can design their own.

Grammar in Context: “I want” + infinitive

Vocabulary: Summer Activities

Prep:

  • Download “Summer bucket list” for each student (note: there are two designs for them to choose from)
  • Print a few copies of each article above. Use www.printfriendly.com to remove ads.

Introduce Objective

Start by introducing the daily objective. By the end of the lesson, they should be able to do this at their proficiency target.

NOTE – The “Introduction” page has a mini-lesson on it about picking at “motto” for the summer. Don’t skip that!

Video

Announce that summer is coming! Show the video. Ask them: What activities are being done in the video? Is the summer in your area similar or different from Canada?

Question

First let them brainstorm words that they already know that will help them complete today’s objective at their proficiency target.

What to teenagers do in the summer?

What are you doing normally in the summer? What other opportunities are available?

Possible Answers: work, play, travel, learn, relax

Summer Bucket Lists

Introduce that they will be making their own buckets lists. Put out the articles that you printed. Let them use those to get ideas to put on their sheet (there are two versions for them to pick from or they can create their own – lots of ideas on Google images). They can trade articles once they are done.

Encourage them to include multiple types of activities:

Activities to relax

Activities to learn/improve your mind/try

Activities to entertain yourself

Activities to move/stay healthy

People to visit/see

Things/Places to see/visit

Activities to play

Things to make/create

Activities to do with family

Activities to do with friends

Activities to help others

Interpersonal Speaking

Let them talk about their bucket lists.

Check for Learning / Reflect

Let them demonstrate how they can “say what they want to do this summer” with a partner to see if they can do it at their proficiency target. The partner will sign their name if they can do it.

You can mark their “Objective Sheets” if they can do it at their proficiency target.

Remind them to be working on their experiences, especially if one relates to this objective.

If they are using the “Unit Vocabulary Sheet,” give them time to write down what they learned today.
