Hallo German Teachers!

This is a new lesson and the videos/articles have not been reviewed by a native speaker yet. Let us know if we need to replace one.

Targeted Phrases: it is, it has, best, currywurst, sausage, sauce, curry powder

  • Download and print a vocabulary sheet.

Daily Objective

Introduce the daily objective. See if they can figure it out. Help them by using cognates, actions, or props (ketchup, spices, sausage, fries, etc).

Introduce Currywurst and the main ingredients using the image. Take a look at the Wikipedia page. What else can they figure out about Currywurst. Get the conversation going! Have they eaten it? Would they eat it? What is it similar to?

Give them a vocabulary sheet to start categorizing new words.

Opinions from social media

Currywurst is one of the most popular street foods in Germany. When something is really great – people like to talk about it. Let’s look at social media to see what people are saying about Currywurst.

Give students a minute or so to read over some of the tweets. According to these tweets, do you think these people like Currywurst or love it? What words support that opinion? Remind them to add new/important words to vocabulary sheet.

Practice/Jig Saw

First you will model what they will be doing. Show the video for Top 10 beste Currsywurst, specifically the part about Konnopeke’s Imbiß. Pick out what makes that Currywurst good – taste, sauce, price, etc. Note that on the board. Then go to the wikipedia site. Do the same. Now put together a description of Konnopke’s Imbiß and their Currywurst.

Put them to small groups. Assign a different place that sells Currywurst to each group. They will research it (YouTube, Websites, Wikipedia, etc) and take notes on what makes their Currywurst the best.

List of places to assign:

Now assign them to a new group where they will explain why their place is the best.

Check for Learning

Mark/stamp their objective sheets if they can accomplish the lesson objective at their proficiency level.

Mark their “Objective Sheets” if they can do it at their proficiency target.

Remind them to be working on their “Experiences,” especially if one relates to this objective.

If they are using the “Unit Vocabulary Sheet,” give them time to write down what they learned today.
