Introduce Objective 

Start by introducing the daily objective. By the end of the lesson, they should be able to do this at their proficiency target.

Question

First let them brainstorm words that they already know that will help them complete today’s objective at their proficiency target.

¿Qué haces normalmente en el verano? ¿Qué otras oportunidades están disponibles?

Possible Answers: trabajo/trabajar, jugar, viajes/viajar, aprender

Read Travel Reviews

Introduce that these travel reviews are from sites like TripAdvisor. There are errors… yes, native speakers make errors too. 🙂 The ratings have marked out!

Model their task by doing the first one together (Yellowstone):

  • Read the review. They can use a translator/dictionary if they want, but encourage them to try to figure it out first. Write the name of the park after “lugar.”
  • Take a guess! What rating do they think the reviewer left? 
  • What words/phrases support their guess? 
  • Now click on the link to see the real review and the answer. Were they correct?

Hang up the reviews around the room so they can walk around and read them. They will do the same task. There are 8 additional reviews included in the download, but you can add more if you want.

Now give them the “puntuación” sheet. they can do the rest on their own or with a partner. They will mark the circles on the sheet under “puntuación adivinada” and list the words/phrases under “evidencia.”

Go over their answers by using the links above. Point out any major words they missed or answer any questions they may have.

Idea: You could give out tickets to each correct answer. Then do a drawing at the end of class to give away a few prizes (stickers, candy, etc).

Write a Review/Tell us your experience

Using what they learned today, now they can write their own review to tell their own experience in a park. This can be any type of park (city, national) or another natural place (woods).

It can be a fake story too. See “Photo Stories” for ideas.

Note: This form is really similar to the real one on TripAdvisor, except all verb forms were changed to the formal commands.

Check for Learning / Reflect

Let them answer the question at the end to see if they can do it at their proficiency target.

You can mark their “Objective Sheets” if they can do it at their proficiency target.

Remind them to be working on their experiences, especially if one relates to this objective.

If they are using the “Unit Vocabulary Sheet,” give them time to write down what they learned today.
