Units – Culture was the spark that got our students engaged and talking in Spanish. We picked themes and topics that are relevant and connect to today’s students. So you will not see a “chores” unit on here! Also we have taken traditional vocabulary and grammar topics to deeper themes focused on communication.

Proficiency Level Targets – This shows the main range that the unit and lessons were created for. Many lessons (objectives and activities) can be adjusted to fit a different level not indicated.

Unit Length – This is hard to gage because of the many factors like class length, frequency, continuity, class size, proficiency levels and personalities. We try to make the main units last approximately 3 weeks.

Time of Year – These are suggestions to know when we feel like it was best to teach these units. Sometimes it is connected to an event. Did you know El Día de Empanada is April 8th in Argentina and Mexico?! Other times it may relate to when it was best in the school year.

These icons indicate of the AP theme(s) are connected to the unit. We believe it is important to start connecting to these from the beginning of their learning – yes, even in level 1 – because they have the higher order thinking skills, just not the language… yet. We believe this better prepares students for their AP courses in the future.

Click to see how each unit connects to AP themes.

Adjust this to fit your unique situation – number of teaching days, length of class, testing days, days off, etc. Move them around and mix them with your own favorite units! Create a culture-based curriculum that you and your students love.

One-Year Option for Novices

This is a suggested order using only the units we already have available.

Here are 2 other suggested Scope and Sequence options that show our big end-goal vision including what we are developing. This will change and be updated as the AdiosTextbook curriculum expands.

In the high school option, notice that we have vertically and horizontally aligned the curriculum. There is a “theme” that ties them horizontally from one year to the next. This is to help deepen students’ ability to communicate on the themes instead of always “starting over.” This also recycles information in order to “review” without having to do a “review” unit.

* Indicates that it is still being developed.

HIGH SCHOOL OPTION

This is a suggested order and alignment that could be used for a full-time program (Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3). The blanks are areas that we are still developing so you can fill in with your own favorite unit at this time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL OPTION

This is a suggested order that could be used in a 3-year middle school program. This takes a slightly slower pace to develop the skills since many middle school programs are part-time and/or shorter class lengths.
